Hyacinth House

Overview

Hyacinth House is an extraordinary all-electric single-family residence by Livingsystems, featuring a sophisticated collection of custom design elements and innovative, high-performance building systems. The Client pursued LEED Platinum certification from the earliest stages of the project, enabling sustainability strategies to be integrated throughout the home’s design and construction.

Hyacinth House incorporates a variety of exceptional features including Zehnder energy recovery ventilators to provide continuous fresh air while minimizing energy loss, and low-emitting materials used throughout the residence to support improved indoor air quality. Water conservation measures include high-performance plumbing fixtures, reduced irrigation demand, adaptive landscaping, and a rainwater harvesting system beneath the home’s porous river rock driveway to support stormwater management.

ReVireo worked closely with Livingsystems to support the project’s ambitious performance goals from design through construction. ReVireo conducted energy modeling, helping the project team evaluate performance and refine strategies as the project progressed. During construction, ReVireo identified opportunities to improve airtightness within the duct system and building envelope, then performed leakage testing to confirm these measures were effective. ReVireo also verified HVAC installation and performance, confirming energy use, refrigerant charge, and measured airflow aligned with the design intent.

ReVireo coordinated the certification process with the U.S. Green Building Council, reviewing documentation, managing submissions, and responding to certification requirements to support successful LEED for Homes Platinum certification. ReVireo also provided ENERGY STAR, Department of Energy Efficient New Homes, and Indoor airPLUS certification services, ensuring the home met rigorous requirements across multiple high-performance building programs. The project received a $5,000 rebate from the New Jersey Clean Energy Program for achieving these certifications.

As a result of these efforts, Hyacinth House was built to be 40% more energy efficient than a home built to the 2024 International Energy Conversation Code, delivering a projected annual energy cost savings of over $6,000 as compared to the average U.S. home.
