BlackBird Group Architects designed a four-story, approximately 90,000 square foot multifamily building, comprised of 74 affordable residential apartments. To obtain permit approval, the project was required to demonstrate compliance with the New Jersey commercial energy code and pursued the ASHRAE 90.1–2019 Chapter 11 energy modeling compliance path.
ReVireo completed the design-phase energy modeling to verify that the proposed systems and building specifications met the required code performance criteria. Leveraging the flexibility of the Chapter 11 pathway, the design team was able to maintain cost-efficient specifications while still achieving the needed energy performance. The modeling results confirmed that the proposed design complies with the energy code, demonstrating an estimated 13.1% reduction in energy costs compared to the ASHRAE 90.1–2019 code baseline.
