We were founded in 2009 by two lifelong friends and outdoor enthusiasts who sought to reduce the impact of the built environment on the natural environment. Their mission, to enable clients to generate a return on investment in the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings, remains our mission today.
Our friendly, attentive, and reliable team of experts includes HERS Raters, IECC/HERS Compliance Specialists, DOE Efficient New Homes, PHIUS+ Raters & Verifiers, NGBS Green Verifiers, LEED Accredited Professionals & Green Raters, Building Energy Modeling Professionals, Certified Building Commissioning Professionals, Certified Energy Managers, Existing Building Commissioning Professionals, and Professional Engineers.
Matthew has over a decade of experience in green building, real estate development, public policy, and finance. He has guided dozens of large real estate development projects to achieve high-performance building certifications, comply with regulatory and financing requirements, and qualify for incentives.
Matthew serves on the Market Leadership Advisory Board for the New Jersey chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is a member of the New Jersey chapter of the North American Passive House Network (NAPHN). Matthew volunteers locally in his community to support organizations working for social justice and to combat climate change. He served on the board, including as chairman, of Covenant House New Jersey, an organization that supports homeless youth. Matthew was a key member of the Energy Working Group that created the Jersey City Climate Action Plan.
Prior to cofounding ReVireo, Matthew worked in real estate development for both New Brunswick Development Corporation and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. Matthew previously administered a groundbreaking U.S. EPA-funded grant project to reduce carbon emissions across the State of New Jersey.
Matthew received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) specializing in Corporate Finance, Management, and Marketing from the New York University Stern School of Business. He is also a graduate of Rutgers College and the Edward J. Bloustein School, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Planning & Public Policy. Matthew is a LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction.
Ben Cohen has over a decade of experience in energy efficiency design and construction. He has delivered seminars and professional training on building energy codes and green building programs to national audiences.
Since cofounding ReVireo, Ben has completed thousands of HERS ratings and consulted on over thousands of unique building projects of all types and sizes. He works with all sorts of clients including large national homebuilders, boutique real estate developers, affordable housing organizations, and owner-occupants, utilizing his engineering background to solve problems and think critically.
Ben has won awards for his work on building energy codes from the New Jersey Builders Association. Ben currently serves on the Green Committee of the Building Industry Association of Philadelphia and is a member of the New Jersey Builder Association’s Building Code Committee. He is also on the Market Leadership Advisory Board of the New Jersey chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council.
Ben holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Union College.
Tara Shah has primary responsibility for ReVireo’s brand and its relationship with valued clients and partners. She has over two decades of experience in home building, real estate, brand development, marketing strategy and advertising communications.
Tara focuses on supporting clients’ strategic vision. Her experiences working on both the client side and vendor side of businesses enable her to connect with clients on a deeper and collaborative level.
Prior to joining ReVireo, Tara worked in home building for Pulte Group and in branding, marketing and advertising for Wilton Brands, Toys “R” Us and Sirius Advertising. Tara holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, and Associate of Science in Advertising from Johnson & Wales University.
Kara D’Afflitto oversees the company’s information systems, technology strategy, and operational processes to enhance efficiency, collaboration, and consistency across the organization. With more than a decade of experience at ReVireo, she provides valuable institutional knowledge and leadership in developing scalable systems that support both internal teams and client success.
Her work focuses on continuous improvement, process optimization, and ensuring ReVireo has the structure and resources needed to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions. Kara holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Policy, Institutions, and Behavior from Rutgers University.
Michael Cole oversees ReVireo’s residential project workflows, helping ensure efficient execution, quality control, and exceptional client service. He supports the coordination of residential energy efficiency and certification projects, bringing a strong understanding of building performance and sustainability principles to his role.
He holds a Master of Environmental Science from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from DePaul University. His expertise helps guide successful project outcomes while supporting ReVireo’s commitment to energy efficiency, compliance, and high-quality service.
DSR Engineering, P.C. is an integrated ReVireo partner that works closely with ReVireo to provide energy modeling, HVAC design, engineering design review, commissioning, retro-commissioning, equipment performance testing, energy audits, and related services. DSR Engineering serves as a subconsultant to ReVireo, supporting the delivery of energy efficiency and engineering solutions to clients.
Daryl Strom is the President of DSR Engineering, P.C. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Bioenvironmental Engineering from Rutgers University and his Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Energy Systems Engineering from Lehigh University.
Mr. Strom is a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New Jersey (24GE05222700), New York (100222), Pennsylvania (PE088324), Delaware (PE26938), and Connecticut (34090). Additionally, he is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), a Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), a Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), and an Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP).
